Directions to SREL from Aiken, SC:

Take Hwy. 19 south into New Ellenton (do not exceed the speed limit in New Ellenton). The New Ellenton Town Hall will be on your left in the center of town. Exactly 2 miles straight ahead is the intersection of Hwy. 19 and Hwy. 278.

1) To get to SREL, go straight through this intersection and bear right almost immediately onto SRS Road 1 (click here for a map). Continue 4 miles on Road 1. You will note several brick buildings and a very large parking lot on your left. Turn left into the parking lot at the "Visitor's Control" sign and park. You may proceed to the SRS Badge Office in building 703-A (the building with the flag poles), where your visitor's badge will be issued to you. You will not be able to enter the Savannah River Site without your visitor's badge and identification.

2) To get to SREL's Conference Center, turn left at the intersection of Hwy. 19 and Hwy. 278 and go 3.5 miles east on Hwy. 278 (click here for a map). A green SC Department of Transportation sign (on the right side of the road) and a low wood sign (on the left side of the road) mark the entrance to the Conference Center. Turn left here onto a gravel road and continue until you see the parking lot. No SRS security badge is necessary on the Conference Center grounds, but the entrance gate and building are locked except when a function is scheduled. Call your host ahead of time to make sure you will have access.


Directions to SREL from Augusta, GA:

1) From Washington Rd:
Take Washington Road east (toward downtown) to the Calhoun Expressway (the road simply changes names) to the end. From there continue straight ahead. You will be on Greene Street. Again, there are no turns involved, the street simply changes names. You will be crossing numbered streets. From 5th Street go 0.7 miles where the road you are on ends at East Boundary. Turn left onto East Boundary, then right at the light. You will be on Broad St. Broad St. changes names again and turns into Sandbar Ferry Rd. (These are also known as Rt. 28.) Go 1.4 miles to the light at Bobby Jones Expressway (520). Continue straight ahead 3.1 miles to the light in Beech Island at the intersection of Hwy. 278 and Hwy. 125. Drive straight through the light and bear right, taking the ramp marked "125 South." Take this road into Jackson, 13 miles (do not exceed the speed limit in Jackson). You will see a BP station on your left. Make your next left after this (not at the station, but the next road), onto SRS Road 1 (click here for a map). Continue about 2.5 miles; on your right will be several brick buildings and a very large parking lot. Turn right into the parking lot at the "Visitor's Control" sign and park. 2) From downtown:
Take Broad Street traveling east, (toward Beech Island). Broad St. Turns into Sandbar Ferry Rd. (These are also known as Rt. 28.) Go 1.4 miles to the light at Bobby Jones Expressway (520). Continue straight ahead 3.1 miles to the light in Beech Island at the intersection of Hwy. 278 and Hwy. 125. Drive straight through the light and bear right, taking the ramp marked "125 South." Take this road into Jackson, 13 miles (do not exceed the speed limit in Jackson). You will see a BP station on your left. Make your next left after this, onto Road 1 (click here for a map). On your right, in about 2.5 miles will be several brick buildings and a very large parking lot. Turn right into the parking lot at the "Visitor's Control" sign and park. 3) From Bush Field airport:
Exit the airport toward downtown (north). Take 520 Bobby Jones Expressway east (away from Martinez; this is a new part of the road). Take BJE to the Laney Walker Blvd. exit (exit 16). Turn right onto Laney Walker Blvd. Go a short distance until Laney Walker dead-ends at Sandbar Ferry Road (Hwy. 28). Turn right onto Sandbar Ferry Road. Continue straight ahead 3.1 miles to the light in Beech Island at the intersection of Hwy. 278 and Hwy. 125. Drive straight through the light and bear right, taking the ramp marked "125 South." Take Wrightsboro Road toward downtown Augusta. At the railroad tracks, turn right onto Martin Luther King Blvd. Take this until it ends, then turn right onto Broad Street/Sandbar Ferry Rd./Rt. 28. Continue straight ahead 3.1 miles to the light in Beech Island at the intersection of Hwy. 278 and Hwy. 125. Drive straight through the light and bear right, taking the ramp marked "125 South." Directions to SREL from Athens or Atlanta, GA:
Take I-20 east to Augusta. Take 520 Bobby Jones Expressway east (away from Martinez) and follow the directions "from Bush Field airport" above.

Directions to SREL from Columbia, SC:
Take I-20 west to Aiken. Take exit 22, then take a left, heading south into Aiken. You are now on Hwy 1, which becomes York Street in Aiken (be sure to continue straight on York Street after you pass Church's fried chicken–ignoring signs that tell you to turn to follow Hwy. 1). Stay on York Street until it dead-ends into South Boundary Road (you will have gone through the city of Aiken, having crossed Richland and Park Streets). Take a right onto South Boundary, go about 100 yards to the traffic light and take a left onto Whiskey Road/Hwy. 19. Stay on Whiskey Road/Hwy 19 through the south side of Aiken, into New Ellenton (approximately 15 miles; do not exceed the speed limit in New Ellenton). The New Ellenton Town Hall will be on your left in the center of town. Exactly 2 miles straight ahead is the intersection of Hwy. 19 and Hwy. 278. (a landmark there is Jim Bob's Used Cars.)
