Information for first-time visitors
IMPORTANT: SREL is located on the U.S. Department of Energy's Savannah River Site. This is a secure site and you will need to be badged at least one week in advance of your visit (if you are not a U.S. citizen, this process can take considerably longer). In addition, you MUST bring two forms of identification from the list of acceptable documents, and at least one of them must be a photo ID. This is not optional. When you arrive on the SRS, you can proceed directly to the SRS badging office to receive your visitor's badge. Once you have obtained your badge, you can proceed through the security barricade to SREL.

If you will be doing field work, or going on a tour of our field sites, please bring appropriate shoes and clothing. During dry weather, sturdy shoes or sneakers will suffice for most areas. During wet times, waterproof foot gear is recommended. We have a limited number of waders available in different sizes. Please work out your specific needs in advance with your host. During the summer the heat is intense. Sunblock, hats, and lightweight clothing are recommended. Bugspray is a must. Winter temperatures can be sub-freezing or very moderate. Check our weather before you pack.

You may want to bring a camera to shoot photos of our beautiful natural areas. Laptops and cell phones are permitted. Palm Pilots and other handheld computer devices may be used only within SREL facilities; individuals wishing to bring such devices on site must speak with Jeff Harris, SREL's Computer Manager, regarding restrictions that apply to the use of such equipment on the SRS.

Your badge covers only you. Anyone traveling with you must remain outside the Site or be badged in advance. Please do not bring unexpected guests, children, or pets. They will not be allowed and may slow down your visit.
