National Science Foundation's Research Experience for Undergraduates Program

Savannah River Ecology Laboratory, May-July 2004

  • Completed research project “Anti-predator behavior in juvenile southern toads ( Bufo terrestris ) exposed to visual and chemical cues from eastern hognose snakes ( Heterodon platirhinos )”
  • Assisted in field work for Land-use Effects on Amphibian Populations (LEAP) project
  • Gained experience in field research, microhabitat analysis, and identification and safe handling of reptiles and amphibians

Research in Animal Sciences course

  • Assisted in field work for various research projects in Dr. Larry Katz's lab
  • Topics of research included Informed Forager Hypothesis in juvenile male goats, estrous synchronization in dairy heifers, and spatial memory and reproductive behavior in male and female goats

Diamondback Terrapin Head Start Program

  • Responsible for daily care of hatchling diamondback terrapins, including feeding, cleaning tanks, and maintaining salinity of tank water
