Chris is originally from Houston TX, but he has since left the big concrete city to pursue a career studying reptiles and amphibians. He first received a B.S. in Biology and Environmental Science from Stephen F. Austin State University, before taking his first steps into the world of research at the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory as an NSF-sponsored REU program participant. Most importantly, as an REU he learned that science is not something one learns, but instead is something one does to answer questions. And since Chris has lots of questions, he decided to stick with research. He returned to Stephen F. Austin State University to obtain his Master's degree, primarily by studying the evolution of thermal physiology in diamondback watersnakes, Nerodia rhombifer. Currently, he is involved in a diversity of reptile and amphibian research projects at the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory and the Institute of Ecology, where he will (eventually...) earn his Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Georgia.
