Students Affairs FAQ
Where is Student Affairs?
From Broad Street, walk under the Arch onto the campus. The first building on your
right is the Holmes/Hunter Academic Building. Climb up the main stairway at the front
of the building. Follow the Student Affairs signs to Room 201.
How do I get a class absence excused?
Only your instructor can excuse your absence. You should contact your instructor
or refer to your syllabus to determine if your absence will be excused and
if you will be allowed to make up the missed work. Student Affairs does not
excuse absences or verify student documentation for routine absences.
How do I contact my instructors in the case of an emergency?
If you have an emergency situation that will keep you out for an extended period
of time and that prevents you from notifying your instructors, you should
provide documentation of the emergency to Ms. Linda Edge by faxing it to
706-542-3406 and also call her at 542-8220. We will verify your situation
and notify your instructors.
Why won't OASIS allow me to withdraw?
There are many reasons why, and following are just a few:
1) OASIS may be closed. Check the
Schedule of Classes or call the Registrar at 542-4040.
2) If the withdrawal deadline has passed, you will not be able to withdraw on OASIS.
Please access our withdrawal page for more information.
3) If you have registered but have not paid your tuition and fees, OASIS may not allow
you to withdraw. Call the Bursar's Office
for assistance (542-2965).
4) If you have any flags on your record, you will not be allowed to withdraw or register
until those flags are cleared. Call the source of your flag.
What is the difference between "Drop" and "Withdraw"?
You can "Drop" individual classes or your entire schedule only during
the Drop/Add period. "Drop" removes the course entirely from your transcript
resulting in no grade and no attempted hours. After Drop/Add, you must "Withdraw" to
cancel any or all of your classes, and this will result in grades of "W" or "WF" and
counts as attempted hours. A "Withdraw" is accomplished on OASIS by
the student after Drop/Add and until the withdrawal deadline of each term. After
the withdrawal deadline, students can no longer "Withdraw" on OASIS
but must make that request through the Office of the Vice President for Student
Affairs.
Why do I have a failing grade in a class from which I withdrew?
There are several different reasons for this:
1) You were failing the class when you withdrew. It is your instructor's prerogative
to assign a grade of "W" or "WF" when you withdraw, even if it's before the midpoint.
2) You did not complete the withdrawal properly on OASIS, so it was never processed in
the system. You should always print out proof of your withdrawal and always check your
schedule after withdrawing from a class.
3) You assumed your instructor would withdraw you for non-attendance, but this isn't
automatically the case. Once you have registered and paid for a class, it is solely your
responsibility to drop it or withdraw from it.
Why do I have a class on my schedule for which I never registered?
You are responsible for your own registration. Registration is accomplished on OASIS using
your ID number and private PIN number. The only way a class can appear on your schedule is
if you signed up for it or if you gave your personal information to someone else. You should
NEVER give your personal information out to anyone including your advisor and your friends.
If a mistake is made on your registration, it is your personal responsibility to amend it.
YOU SHOULD ALWAYS CHECK YOUR SCHEDULE AFTER REGISTERING, DROPPING, ADDING, AND WITHDRAWING.
I'm in the military and have been called to active duty. What do I do?
Call Student Affairs at 542-3564, or Linda Edge at 542-8220, and she can help
you through this process.
I have a final exam conflict. What do I do?
If you have three finals scheduled for the same day or two scheduled for
the same time, go to www.bulletin.uga.edu and click on the link for Final
Exam Schedule Conflicts. You will be taken to a set of directions on
petitioning for a change in exam times. You may also call the Office
of Curriculum Systems at 542-6358. Personal conflicts with a scheduled
final must be handled by the student, with the instructor, who will approve
or deny it.
