I grew up in a God fearing home where
it seemed like I was always in Church. I knew about God and His
word, but I didn’t understand completely how it worked. I accepted
Christ on June 7, 1998. This has been a very important date in my
life, not only because it was the day I accepted Christ but also the
day I said my wedding vows to my beautiful wife, Angie. These are
the two most important decisions anyone will ever make in their
lifetime. After I accepted Christ, I didn’t make any radical
changes to my life, and, like many of life’s decisions, it took
time. I finally started to embrace my faith in high school. I
attended an FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) Leadership Camp
on St. Simons Island. This is where I first found out what it meant
to be a disciple of Christ. After that camp, I joined the
Leadership Team with my high school FCA. Before I knew it I was
graduating and getting ready to go off to school at UGA. When I got
to UGA, I was so busy with school and football there wasn’t a lot of
time for anything else. Despite being in class with 300 plus people
and football practice with 125 guys, there was still a void in my
life that couldn’t be filled with class and football.
I
finally met Scott Shepherd who was on staff with Athletes in Action
and got involved in a Bible study and the Team United ministry. I
started meeting with Scott for weekly discipleship where we would
study passages from the Bible. I loved these times, and I felt this
is what God was calling me to do for the rest of my life. I was
recently presented with an opportunity to come on staff with FCA. I
have accepted this job and will be working as an Area Representative
for Greene, Morgan, Putnam, Taliaferro, and Jasper counties. Because
of what the Lord has done in my life during my college years, I will
now have the wonderful opportunity to disciple teenagers in the
truths of God and His Word. Thanks to God for using the ministry of
Team United to build me up in my faith and send me out as a minister
of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Proverbs 18:22 says, “He who finds a wife finds what is good and
receives favor from the Lord.” My marriage with Angie has truly
been a blessing. It has been an amazing experience walking with my
spouse through life and dealing with trials as well as triumphs that
we encounter in the Christian life. My parents have always been
great role models to me as a married couple. They are committed to
staying together through thick and thin. Because of them, I have a
solid foundation to build my marriage. Christ will always be the
center of our relationship and because of this we will be able to
stay focused on God’s will and purpose for our lives. To Him alone
be all the Glory and Honor!
