Purpose of the Program

Over the past year (Summer 2005 to May 2006) members of the UGA administration and faculty — including Pratt Cassity (Environmental Design), Art Dunning (Vice President for Public Service and Outreach), Ed Kanemasu (International Agriculture), David Knauft (Horticulture), David Gattie (Agricultural Engineering) and Rebecca Mullis (Nutrition) — met with representatives from Chiang Mai University (CMU) in Chiang Mai, Thailand and Kasetsart University (KU) in Bangkok in order to explore and develop a relationship on which to build a sustainable service-learning (SL) partnership.

This service-learning partnership will be reciprocal in that an interdisciplinary team of faculty and students from UGA would visit the Thai universities in May and June of each year, followed by a possible visit to UGA by faculty and students from Thailand in October.
