The Gamma Delta chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta is located in the bustling metropolis of Athens, Georgia. This town, known as the "Home of the Dawgs," has to live up to many expectations. Football has been, and will always be, an overly popular sport in Athens; the fact that our UGA mascot was named the #1 Collegiate Mascot by Sports Illustrated magazine must say something about the spirit and pride of this school. Football is not the only significant sport in Athens by any means. Other sports teams have performed exceptionally well, including the NCAA and SEC champion Lady Swim Dogs, the NCAA and SEC champion Gym Dawgs.

Other than sports, Athens is renowned for its music scene. It is through the hands of the Athens producer John Keane that Athens-natives R.E.M. and Widespread Panic have gained worldwide popularity. Drivin'-n-Cryin', Dayroom, and Soul Miner's Daughter are among the enormous roll of Athens-based bands, each of which have considerably loyal followings in the Southeast.

Scenic downtown Athens is quite known for its shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, and music venues. The Georgia Theatre, the 40 Watt Club, DT's Down Under, the Classic Center, and the High Hat are among the more popular venues; recently, however, there has been the addition of several other popular venues downtown: Tasty World, One Love, and the Athens Music Factory.

Nearly every bar and cafe downtown is popular, and it is only on an extremely rare occasion that one of these will be less than packed. Coffee shops including Blue Sky, Jittery Joe's, and Expresso Royale are popular places to meet friends or to study.
