Sun Year 2000 Information

Hardware

Speaking generally, Sun hardware doesn't have a year 2000 problem, though many SPARCstations have a year 2070 problem.

Software

Also speaking generally, Solaris doesn't have a year 2000 problem, but rather a year 2038 problem, like any 32-bit UNIX variant.

OS patches

  1. Solaris 7 and above: Lingering Y2K issues will be addressed with standard "recommended" OS patches as they are discovered.

  2. Solaris 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.5.1 and 2.6: There are specific Y2K patch clusters for these OS releases. Here are links to local copies of these clusters:

    SPARC

    x86

  3. SunOS 4.1.3_U1B and SunOS 4.1.4: These OS releases have Y2K patches, though they are not distributed in cluster format. The Y2K patches are merely a subset of the available patches. Local copies of the Y2K patches are at

  4. SunOS versions not listed above: These will never be Y2K compliant.
The Y2K patch clusters are occasionally updated. Local copies are dated about 8/13/99.

Sun's site for the publicly available Y2K patch clusters is their Public Patch Access page.
