Flagline Audition Information
In addition to adhering to the UGA Auxiliary Performance and Appearance standards, to audition for the UGA Flagline, you must have the following:

Advanced understanding of basic drop spin and Peggy spins
Advanced understanding of body movement while spinning
Ability to perform in time while marching
45 degree tosses
Horizontal tosses
Vertical Tosses

Frequently Asked Questions
What do you wear to tryouts?
All candidates should wear a modestly cut black leotard with flesh colored tights, and and any type of dance shoe. Performance quality hair and make-up is required. No jewelry except for earrings is allowed.
Requirements once you make the line:
A $220 uniform and practice silk deposit is required the day of tryouts if you are chosen to be on the Flagline.
Members of the Flagline are required to attend band camp in August. Band camp is generally the first two weeks of August.
How many girls are on the Flagline?
Currently, there are 23 members on the Flagline, but there is no set number of members.
How many additional members are added each year?
There is no set number of members added each year. Members are selected based on performance and appearance standards.
What size poles do you spin?
We use flags on weighted 6' poles. The top of the flag is weighted heavier than the bottom to allow the flag to spin correctly while being tossed.
Does the Flagline spin weapons?
Many members of the Flagline know how to spin rifle and/or sabre. While we encourage members to stay current on their skills with weapon, we do not have a performing weapons line.
Is dance experience required for the Flagline?
Some dance/movement experience is recommended but not required.
What is the cost associated with being a member of the Flagline?
Each member is responsible for purchasing her uniform, matching warm-ups, practice attire, bag, practice silk, pole and any other items specified by the Flagline coordinator. The price varies slightly each year and is estimated to be around $800. Some of the items (practice pole, silk, bag) are a one-time purchase.
Who choreographs the routines?
The captains choreograph and teach the routines at the disrection of the Flagline coordinator.
How many shows does the Redcoat Band perform each fall?
The Redcoat band usually learns and performs at least three shows each fall. Each of these shows has an average of three tunes.
Does the flagline travel with the band to all the football games?
All the Redcoat Auxiliaries travel to the away games at which the full band plays. For example, the Georgia v. Florida game in Jacksonville, Tennessee, Auburn, and bowl games.
How are captains chosen?
To be eligible for captain, you must have performed with the line for at least a year. An application must be completed and submitted to the Redcoat Band directors and Auxiliary Coordinators. The applicant must go through an interview as well as choreograph and teach a small group of current members a portion of a routine.
Once I become a member, do I have to tryout every year?
Yes. The purpose of returning members going through the audition practice is to maintain the most current skill set.
