Majorettes Audition Information
In addition to agreeing to the UGA Redcoat Band Performance and Appearance Standards, to audition for the Majorette line, you must execute the following:
- Toss Walk-over
- One-Spin Illusion
- Toss Illusion (forward and reverse on the right leg)
- 3 Spins (Horizontal & Vertical)
- 2 Baton Combinations
- 3 Baton Combinations
- Tour jetes
- Laybacks
- Advanced understanding of bodywork and dance combinations
- Grand jetes on both legs

**This is the application to be filled out and returned. Please read carefully and make sure you turn in all required materials together.
**Each candidate will need to prepare a solo routine not to exceed 2 minutes. Please incorporate personal style as well as required technical skills. You may choose any music that is tasteful. You will be asked to perform this routine if you successfully complete the group audition process, so you may or may not actually perform the routine you have prepared.
Please bring 2 copies (CDS ONLY PLEASE) of your music. You will turn in your music IF and when your number is called to perform the solo routine.
FAQ
What do I wear to auditions?
Black leotard, tights and dance shoes (whatever you choose). You may wear warm-ups to
learn the routine if you would like. Full performance hair and makeup is required. Hair is worn
half up on the field.
How many girls will make the line?
Currently, there are 13 girls, but there is not a set number each year.
How much twirling experience is required to make the line?
As long as you have an advanced understanding of the twirling skills required, there is not a
set amount of experience required.
What is the cost associated with being a Majorette?
Each member is responsible for purchasing her uniform, matching warm-ups, practice attire,
game bag, and any other items specified by the Auxiliary Coordinator and/or Captains. A good
estimation is $1,000.00 - $1,500.00.
Who choreographs the routines?
The Captains are responsible for all choreography at the discretion of the Auxiliary
Coordinator.
DO YOU HAVE AUDITION PREPARATORY CLINICS THAT I CAN ATTEND?
Yes, these preparatory clinics are generally held prior to auditions in the spring. Sessions generally run for two hours and are optional, however attendance is strongly recommended. Attire can include any comfortable dathletic attire and non-marking shoes.
WHAT DO THE JUDGES LOOK FOR AT AUDITIONS?
Judges will look at your appearance, showmanship, twirling/dancing ability, poise, personality, and speaking ability.
WILL AUDITIONS BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC?
Auditions will be open to the public.
DO CURRENT TEAM MEMBERS HAVE TO RE-AUDITION?
Yes, all returning members must go through the audition process each season. Their spots on
the team are not guaranteed. The purpose of returning members going through the audition
process every year is to maintain ideal physical condition and to maintain skills required.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE INTERVIEW PROCESS?
Be prepared to introduce yourself and provide an overview of your background, education and goals. Casual business attire is expected.
HOW SHOULD I FIX MY HAIR AND MAKE-UP?
Your hair and make-up should be complimentary and appropriate for an athletic environment. No ponytails please!
