There are many different options for purchasing or renting violins. The “brand” of an instrument is not important. What is important is that the student gets the correct size instrument. Again, please contact the director to determine the correct size instrument for your child BEFORE purchasing or renting.
You can expect to pay roughly $250-$500 to buy a violin, depending on size and quality of the instrument. Rental prices range from $15-$30/month. Children tend to stay on the same size violin for roughly a year, however, you should contact the director to determine whether or not your child is about to grow out of a size before deciding to purchase or rent a violin.
Violins are often sold or rented in “outfits”. These outfits usually include the violin, a bow, a case and some basic accessories like rosin or a cleaning cloth. You can rent or buy from many of the local music stores or you can shop at some online sources. Consult the director for detailed suggestions on where to purchase or rent instruments online.
