Fisheries of Georgia: History, Status, and Trends

Cecil Jennings, past-president of the Georgia Chapter and current Unit Leader of the Georgia Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Unit, first proposed this work at the 1998 Annual Meeting in La Grange.  The goal of this project is to identify the significant fisheries in each of Georgia's major watersheds (e.g., Altamaha American Shad), and to provide an historical account, present status, and forecast trends in said fishery.

The work is currently underway; the first deliverable is a bibliographical account  that identifies: 1) the fisheries, 2)available data and data form, and 3) the person or persons most knowledgeable about the fishery. This step has been initiated by David Higginbotham (Warnell School of Forest Resources, University of Georgia) and is near completion.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!  Interested in helping out?  Maybe you have intimate knowledge of some overlooked fishery here in Georgia.  Send an email to Dr. Jennings and see how you can help out on this important project...
