Environmental Monitoring Programs at The Marine Institute

The University of Georgia Marine Institute has a long history of monitoring hydrological and meteorological conditions on Sapelo Island. These programs are a cooperative effort among several different agencies where the Marine Institute is responsible for the data collection and site service. Each of the agencies listed below have different data reporting and archiving criteria. All have public access to the data with extensive metadata.

Georgia Coastal Ecosystems - Long-Term Ecological Research (GCE_LTER) Project
(also includes a bibliographic database for Sapelo)
This site contains meteorological data from the National Weather Service and data collected for the (GCE-LTER) Georgia Coastal Ecosystems - Long Term Ecological Research program. The site also has many useful and informative links. Current or most recent data may only be accessible via the private site and would therefore be available via the data manager.

National Climatological Data Center
This is the National Climatological Data Center for NOAA. All of the data collected for the National Weather Service on Sapelo Island beginning in 1957 is available from this site.

NERR System Wide-Monitoring Program
The CDMO is the the Central Data Management Office of the NOAA - National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) system. Data collected for the CDMO is hydrological. Meteorological data will also be reported in 2003.
