What is ugazine?

ugazine is a student-run magazine that serves the University of Georgia campus and the Athens community. It is published twice a year, once at the beginning of fall semester and again in spring semester. Not only do we strive to provide a quality magazine, but we also serve as a learning tool for students interested in the magazine industry. ugazine is a great place to learn how to write magazine articles, edit stories, take photographs and use design elements.

What types of articles are published in ugazine?

We publish articles that are pertinent to UGA students and the Athens community. We are open to any and all ideas, so please don't hesitate to give us suggestions! There are so many clubs and activities in the Athens area that there is no way we can keep up with all of them! It's your job as readers to let us know what you want to read about. We've got a staff full of writers and editors just waiting for new ideas, so what are you waiting for? Let us know!

How do I get involved?

We have open informational meetings at the beginning of each semester, at which we take most of our applications. But even if you miss the meeting, it may not be too late to get involved, so don't be afraid to send us an e-mail. We try not to turn anyone away who wants experience! We give out story assignments about a week after the first meeting, and writers are expected to work on their stories at the beginning of the semester with the help of their editors. In addition to writers, we are always looking for copy editors, photographers and graphic designers to help us throughout the semester. We also have an editorial board consisting of an editor in chief, managing editor, chief copy editor, departments editor, three contributing editors, two new writers editors, editorial assistant, art director, creative director, marketing director, student advertising representative and web designer. Each semester, we take applications for any open positions. If you are interested in getting involved, send us an e-mail, and we will put you on our listserv!
