Facebook Dictionary
In addition to becoming the most popular social network for college students, Facebook has created a vocabulary all its own. Here’s a quick guide to some of the most common terms.
Facebook
v. facebooked, facebooking, facebooks
To use Facebook, which may include updating profiles, adding and tagging pictures, searching for new friends,
checking friends’ profiles and generally wasting countless hours.
Idiom: facebook me
Said when parting ways with a Facebook friend, in lieu of “call me” or “e-mail me.”
Friend
v. friended, friending, friends
To add a fellow member of Facebook, whom you may or may not know in real life, to your list of friends.
The action is not final until confirmed by said member.
Antonym: defriend
Defriend
v. defriended, defriending, defriends
To forcibly remove someone from your list of friends. This action is final and does not require confirmation.
Antonym: friend
Poke
v. poked, poking, pokes
“We have about as much of an idea as you do. We thought it would be fun to make a feature that had no
real purpose and to see what happens from there. So mess around with it, because you’re not getting an
