Getting ready for dinner

University Round Table hosts a few sit-down dinners every school year that allow students, faculty, and community members to discuss various issues over a nice meal. Over the past year we have had a number of insightful speakers. The 2005-2006 school year held some interesting discussions with such topics as immigration, emergency preparedness in Athens, and conflict between academics and sports at UGA. The last topic was hosted by none other than the new Athletic Director, Damon Evans.

The first event of the 2006-2007 school year will feature Dr. Joseph Whorton, Jr. and Tim Johnson. Both men are prominant in the push to end poverty in Athens.

Eight members of the Athens community involved in the poverty issue will also be present to help lead discussions. These include Police Chief, Jack Lumpkin, Tom Gausvik, Associate VP of Human Resources for UGA, and Clay Gilbert, President of Thornton Brothers Company.
