The University of Georgia/Athens
Unitarian Universalist
Young Adult Network
(UUYAN)

What is UUYAN?

We are a diverse group of people, roughly ages 18 - 35, who gather with others interested in joining in our search for religious expression.  Our group includes students and professionals, single and non-, and although no creed unites us, we share beliefs in religious freedom, the interdependent web of life, and acceptance of diversity.

Meeting times/Calendar of Activities

During the year, we meet roughly twice a week:

Thursday evenings at 6:30, we have traditionally met in the Tate Center on the University of Georgia campus.  This fall, we are meeting at the Presbyterian Center on Lumpkin Street (which has comfier chairs), through the generosity of the folks there. If you have questions about the exact meeting location, check at the information desk at the Tate Center.

Sundays following the service at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens, we often meet for lunch.  The last Sunday of every month is designated as the "Free Lunch Bunch" -- come and join us for conversation and free food!

Over the summer, we meet informally.  This summer we met Thursday evenings at 7:30 at the Jittery Joe's on Prince Avenue, and also got together for a lot of social activities. Next summer we will probably do the same!

Also see our Calendar of Activities!

GrUUp Organization
The UUYAN is two groups in one!  We are a University of Georgia student group, and a Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens group.

What do Unitarian Universalists believe?

The multi-million dollar question.  Chances are, no two UUs would answer this question the same way!  Although Unitarianism and Universalism both sprang out of Christianity, UUism today includes a far broader spectrum of beliefs.  Unitarian Universalists acknowledge seven guiding principles. If you are any of the following, UUism may appeal to you: Humanist, Existentialist, Taoist, Agnostic, Atheist, Buddhist, Bah'ai, Pagan, Humanistic Jew, Liberal Christian, Ethical Culturalist, Liberal Muslim, Environmentalist, Anti-Religionist Skeptic, Marxist, Non-Believer, Make-Believer. We welcome people following all paths!

For more information on Unitarian Universalism, see the UUA homepage and the Mid-South District's homepage.
