Armed with facts and figures on the number of majors, the student population, and the seating capacity of Sanford Stadium, student tour leaders give visitors the skinny on the most comfortable place to study, campus food (it's award-winning), and the realities of dorm life (getting paired with a roommate you don't know can, in fact, work out great).
Visit UGA A record 228 UGA students submitted applications to be considered for 21 new student staff openings in 2010. These are the 21 students who were selected to join the Visitors Center staff.

UGA Visitors Center Student Staff: Inspiring students, enlightening guests

The University of Georgia Visitors Center (VC) is a unit of the Office of Public Affairs and serves as the front door to UGA. The VC student staff members are often the first official UGA representative campus guests meet when they arrive at UGA. The VC’s 30-plus student staff members are assigned weekly to lead campus tours that are scheduled daily. A majority of our guests are prospective students and their families, but we also welcome guests visiting campus for many different purposes.

The UGA Visitors Center student staff inspires prospective students to have a remarkable college experience and enlightens all of our guests with accurate and helpful information about the UGA experience.

VC Student Staff Requirements:

  • Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate and have completed at least one semester at the University of Georgia (on campus)
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Ability to represent the University of Georgia effectively to numerous constituencies (visitors, prospective students, current students, faculty, and staff)
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Have a positive, enthusiastic attitude and strong customer service skills
  • Commitment to the institution and responsibilities of the position (occasional weekend assignment should be expected and staff must be willing to work prior to at least one home football game)

VC Student Staff Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an information resource and UGA ambassador for campus visitors, faculty, staff, and students
  • Staff the VC information desk, handling walk-in and telephone inquiries as assigned; expect to work approximately 5-10 hours per week
  • Lead tours of the campus year-round
  • Research and update campus information to keep databases and other resources current
  • Maintain accurate statistics of the number of guests who call and visit the VC
  • Attend mandatory bi-weekly staff meetings

Important Dates:

  • January 12, 2010 – Prospective VC student staff applicant information session to be held at the Visitors Center in the Four Towers Building (5 pm-6 pm)
  • January 14, 2010 – VC student staff application deadline (4 pm)
  • January 15, 2010 – Schedule first round group interview time (more information to follow)
  • January 19-22, 2010 – First round group interviews
  • January 26-29, 2010 – Second round interviews
  • February 2, 2010 –If selected, students will be expected to attend the mandatory first meeting for new staff members at 5 pm on this day
  • February 6, 2010 – If selected, students will be expected to attend the mandatory kickoff meeting for new staff members at 9 am on this day. This meeting will last about half of the day.
  • February through early March – New student staff member training one day per week at a time to be determined.
