VISITORS CENTER
The campus tour begins at the Visitors Center located in the Four Towers Building on East Campus. Originally built as a dairy barn in 1937 by the Public Works Administration, the building was renovated prior to the 1996 Olympic games held in Atlanta. The Visitors Center has had over 240,000 visitor contacts since its inception.
SOUTH CAMPUS
The South Campus area of the university is home to a variety of departments, mostly scientific and mathematical in nature. The two exceptions to this rule are Aderhold Hall, which houses the College of Education, and Tucker Hall, home to the School of Social Work. Visitors can also see Science Row, which is home to a number of science classes, Conner Hall, home to the College of Agriculture and Environmental Science, and Boyd Graduate Research Center, home to the departments of Mathematics and Computer Sciences. The Paul D. Coverdell Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences opened in 2006.
Two of UGA's professional schools, the College of Pharmacy and the College of Veterinary Medicine, are located on South Campus.
South Campus is also home to several athletic facilities, including Stegeman Coliseum, the Coliseum Practice Facility, and the Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall, home of the Athletic Department and a sports museum.
WEST CAMPUS
The area known as West Campus at the University of Georgia is home to a variety of residence halls. Visitors can see Oglethorpe House Residence Hall and Dining Commons, the Hill Community, consisting of five smaller Residence Halls and the Colonial Community, featuring our three high rise dorms Brumby, Russell and Creswell. Visitors will also see Bolton Dining Hall, the largest of the three dining halls on campus. The campus tour will move along Lumpkin Street, where visitors can see the 276,000 square foot Zell B. Miller Learning Center, the Tate Student Center expansion construction site and a variety of campus organizations.
NORTH CAMPUS
The walking portion of the campus tour begins at the famous Arch, located on historic North Campus. Centuries-old buildings including the Chapel, Old College, New College, the Law School and the Main Library, are nestled among majestic oaks on the original campus quadrangle. North Campus is also the home to two of UGA’s nationally ranked colleges, the Terry College of Business and the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Moving south, view the heart of campus where visitors can find the Tate Student Center, the UGA Bookstore and the heralded Sanford Stadium.
EAST CAMPUS
The newest section to the university, East Campus is home to the Performing and Visual Arts complex, featuring the state of Georgia's official art museum, the Georgia Museum of Art. Adjacent to the School of Music, the new $40 million School of Art building will open in 2008. The East Campus Village and
Joe Frank Harris Commons give East Campus its only housing and dining facilities. Visitors will also see the university's 5.5 acre work-out center and home to the School of Health and Human Performance, the Ramsey Center for Physical Activities. Pulling back into the Visitors Center, tour participants can catch a a glimpse of the Edgar L. Rhodes Animal Science Center, home to the Animal and Dairy Science Department and animal cloner Steve Stice.
