roberta fernandez image(5/3/06) Former core faculty member, Dr. Roberta Fernandez, has been granted a 2006-2007 Fulbright award to the Czech Republic. She will have a nine-month appointment in the Department of English at Charles University in Prague. Dr. Fernandez will teach courses in American Literature and will introduce Latino/a literature and culture to students in the Czech Republic.

Dr. Donna Alvermann(4/26/06) Dr. Donna Alvermann, Distinguished Research Professor of Language and Literacy Education and affiliate faculty member of Women's Studies, has been awarded the 2006 William Gray Citation of Merit by the International Reading Association. Read More.

Dr. Cuomo(3/21/06) Dr. Chris Cuomo has been named the new director of the Institute for Women's Studies. Currently a professor of philosophy at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Cuomo will begin her appointment in August 2006.

Dr. Bell-Scott(3/6/06) Dr. Pat Bell-Scott, Professor of Child and Family Development and Women's Studies was recently honored with the Marie F. Peters Award from the National Council on Family Relations for her contribution to the field of ethnic minority families with a focus on African-American women's developmental issues. Read More.

abigail richardson(3/1/06) Abigail Richardson, graduate student in sociology and teaching assistant for the Institute for Women's Studies, was recently honored as an Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant by the Dean of Academic Affairs. Richardson teaches Introduction to Women's Studies.

(Summer 2005) The UGA Research Magazine has good representation of women's studies faculty, instructors, and affiliates in this issue. There is a long article by Kathleen Cason on Doris Kadish's research, including reference to Lisa Van Zwoll's dissertation. And there are articles on Patty Gowaty's research (including a nice photo of the cover of her book, Feminism and Evolutionary Biology) and on Velma McBride Murray's work on strong African American families.
