WELCOME, MIA MINGUS OF REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE NOW!
Our first big event is on Wednesday September 9th at 7PM in the Law School Room 120! Mia Mingus, a co-director for SPARK Reproductive Justice NOW! will discuss what intersectionality and reproductive justice mean and why they are essential to empowering the most marginalized people in our communities. WSSO was lucky enough to meet Mia last year, and she is truly an inspiration! Because our budget is tight this year, WSSO would like to thank Mia for her visit with an educational fundraiser party! The party will be held at 1035 Barnett Shoals Rd (The Summit) Apt 428 at 7:30pm. Join us for food and music, as well as a chat and goodies from SPARK's board members. Admission is free, but we aim to raise money for SPARK by requesting donations. This will be a wonderful networking opportunity as WSSO is inviting a number of local organizations with an interest in social justice to join in the fun!
Take Back the Night 2009 will be on April 9th this year at Tate plaza followed by a march and speak out on North Campus. TBTN confronts violence against women with a rally, empowerment march, and survivor speak out. Please visit our
TBTN website for more information on how to get involved.
We now have an opportunity for those who may feel uncomfortable talking at the speak out to have their voices heard by submitting their stories anonymously.

Institute for Women's Studies moving to Gilbert HallAlthough a move date has not been specified, the Institute for Women's Studies will soon join Romance Languages in Gilbert Hall. The space, once occupied by the Georgia Review magazine, is a prime location for Women's Studies on North Campus and will allow the program to expand. Great work, WSSO-ers! Read more about the move

Currently, we are working on getting a Women's Center on campus, so we are doing a petition drive. Please pick up a petition and get 50 signatures or more! We need 6,000 signatures, so we need your help to get a safe, centralized space on campus that will be devoted to women's issues on campus.
