JPN 1001 FALL

JPNS 1001. Elementary Japanese I. 4 hours.
Oasis title: ELEM JAPANESE I.
Emphasis on listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will learn grammar,
Hiragana and Katakana characters, and about 80 Kanji characters. All lessons include
Japanese culture notes. Course also includes conversation sessions and character
recognition and pronunciation exercise sessions on computers.
Offered fall semester.
Quarter equivalent: JPN 101

HOMEWORK:
1. Half credit for: One-day late homework.
2. No credit for more than one-day late / incomplete / poorly done
homework.

CLASS ATTENDANCE:
1. "Excused absence" = absence accompanied by a written medical excuse the next day
2. 5 Unexcused absences = automatic F

TEST & QUIZZES:
1. There will be two written quizzes a week.
2. There will be two oral quizzes a week.
3. There will be one test per lesson.
4. There will be no make up tests and quizzes for unexcused absences.

LAB ATTENDANCE:
1. Computer lab (66 Park Hall) attendance:
-Two 30-minute sessions/week are required.
-60 min./week (0.5) X 10 weeks = 5 points
-If you fail to complete two sessions every week,
0.5 points will not be given that week.
2. Language lab (305 Moore College) is available for listening to tapes and recording your own voice.
