Examinations:
Both, the Mid-Term Exam and the Final Exam consists of tasks which test all four language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing

Homework:
1. All homework should be handed in on the following day unless otherwise specified.
2. You will receive half credit for homework turned in one day late.
3. You will receive no credit for incomplete/poorly done or more than one day late homework.

Computer Lab (Located in #149 Joseph E. Brown Hall):
It is required that you use the computer lab twice a week, for 30 minutes each time. Chose two slots on the sign-up sheet in the lab . The schedule you select will be valid till the end of the quarter. Try not to have your allocated slots too close to each other. Ideally, they should be at least two days apart. You cannot be signed up twice on the same day.

You will receive a list with instructions explaining which Kanji to practice. At the end of each session please print out your report card; use that sheet to practice every Kanji you missed by writing every problematic character at least 5 times. On every Friday please turn in your practice sheet so that your progress can be evaluated.

Please note that the use of the lab requires that at the beginning of each academic quarter you purchase a "lab-fee card" at the University Bookstore. Please write your name and course number on the card and hand the card over to your instructor. The cost of the card will be applied towards the maintenance costs of the computer lab.

Writing Assignment:
You will be assigned to complete a writing task once every two weeks. The first week, you turn in a draft. The following week, you turn in the corrected and complete entry. The instructor will indicate if corrections are necessary, but s/he will not do it for you. You must consult with your instructor or conversation partners to polish your writing.

The writing tasks will be related to grammar points in the current lesson and/or topics discussed in the class. You will receive three points for a draft and another three for a finished product. If you are one day late or the entry is incomplete, half point will be subtracted.

Write as interesting and cohesive entry as possible. It is all right for you to make up a story. Try to use new vocabulary and sentence patterns. The instructor will comment on your entry, and expects you to respond to the comment; it is important that you keep communicating with your instructor in writing.

Listening Assignment:
You will be given a listening task each week. You need to either listen to a tape and answer questions or interview a Japanese person. Each assignment will earn you three points. One day late or incomplete entry will bring you half credit only. Attendance:
1. Five unexcused absences = one grade down (An "unexcused absence" is an absence not accompanied by a written medical excuse.)
2. There will be no make up quizzes/tests for unexcused absences.

Textbooks:
1. Fourth Step in Japanese (Lesson 36~40)
2. Japanese For You (1994 Edition, Taishuukan Publishing Company, Tokyo)
