Examinations:
Both, the Mid-Term Exam and the Final Exam consists of tasks which
test all four language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing
Rules:
1. Students are responsible for classes missed regardless of the circumstances.
Students who miss 5 hours of class will have their final grade lowered
by 10%. Students who miss 10 hours of class will have their final grade
lowered by 20%. Absence by sick will be counted according to this rule
unless you submit a doctor's excuse. (Phone number and doctor's signature
are required)
2. Homework or compositions submitted up to one day late will be assessed 1/2 points. No credit will be given to homework or compositions submitted more than one day late.
3. No make-up tests or quizes will be given to these students with unexcused absences.
4. Being late for the class for more than 5 minutes, also leaving early
without excuse will be counted as subtractions. Three times of these (either
late or early leave) will be counted as 1 hour of absence. No make-up quizzes
will be given even if you show up during or after the quiz.
Requirements for Project and Presentation
Writing Assignment:
You will be assigned to complete a writing task every week. The first
draft will be read either by the instructor or the native informants. By
the following week, you turn in the corrected and complete entry. The instructor
will indicate if corrections are necessary, but s/he will not do it for
you. You must consult with your instructor or conversation partners to
polish your writing.
The writing tasks will be related to grammar points in the current lesson and/or topics discussed in the class. You will receive three points for a draft and another three for a finished product. If you are one day late or the entry is incomplete, half point will be subtracted.
Write as interesting and cohesive entry as possible. It is all right
for you to make up a story. Try to use new vocabulary and sentence patterns.
The instructor will comment on your entry, and expects you to respond to
the comment; it is important that you keep communicating with your instructor
in writing.
Speaking Assignment:
You will be assigned to make a public speeking during the quarter.
A particular topic will be selected from the supplementary readings or
topics of your writing assignment. Each student will have 3 to 5 minutes
to present your speech. All students are expected to have memorization
ability.
