BARC Repeater Policy
Intent: The University of Georgia Bulldog Amateur Radio Club in order to
provide a useful, efficiently operating amateur repeater(s) do hereby amend
the by-laws to include the following policy:
-
The purpose of the repeater(s) is as follows:
- The repeater(s) will serve to facilitate normal communications
between club members
- The repeater will serve to provide net communications during
club sponsored events and club functions.
- The repeater will serve as a secondary/auxiliary repeater during
ARC/BARC Skywarn net activation.
-
The Bulldog Amateur Radio Club repeater is intended for use by club
members according to the purposes stated above. Requirements of the UGA
Department of Student Activities require that membership be limited to
students, faculty, staff, alumni, and family members of any of the
aforementioned categories. Anyone who does not fit into any of the above
categories may become a "friend" of the club through a yearly donation to be
set by the club voting membership.
-
Since BARC at this time does not receive funding from the Department of
Student Activities, members and repeater users are asked to financially
support the repeater through dues and donations.
-
While it is the intent of the Bulldog Amateur Radio Club that the
repeater(s) remain "open", the club reserves the right to enable DTMF or
CTCSS toning at anytime, especially if abuse of repeater policy becomes
apparent Notification will be provided within 1-2 days e-mail when the
status of the repeater changes. Also, the repeater may be closed during
club functions if the situation warrants, but will not be closed during any
Skywarn or emergency net.
-
Members are reminded that repeater use should be in full accordance with
FCC guidelines i.e. proper station identification, refraining from
illegal/improper transmissions, jamming, etc. Abuse will not be tolerated
and may result in DTMF/CTCSS toning, the offender being asked to refrain
from future use of the BARC repeater, or other action.
-
Even though some sorts of communications have been legalized recently by
the FCC, the following activities types of transmissions are prohibited....
- Swap/Trade of equipment
- Sale of equipment, even if price is not named...
- Any discussion even remotely hinting of business
- Any activity not mentioned above that is detrimental to the amateur
radio hobby and could bring reproach upon the club, the hobby, or
the University of Georgia.
