The 2004 Sunflower Music Series included the band Barbara Cue.

Concerts

Our popular Sunflower Concert Series now includes four outdoor summer concerts on the International Garden lawn—one each in June, July, August, and September. Bring a picnic and a blanket or enjoy dinner at Café Trumps; ticket prices include beverages and light snacks. In the event of inclement weather, the concerts take place in the Conservatory. Grogus, playing Latin jazz and salsa, is among the popular groups that have performed. Other performances have included Tim Easton, hope for agoldensummer, Vic Chesnutt, Barbara Cue, and Neal Pattman.

The Evergreen Concert Series is our winter concert series and takes place in the warm moist air of our tropical conservatory. The State Botanical Garden of Georgia, Hugh Hodgson School of Music, and UGA Music Business Program cosponsor these free concerts. Music at these concerts has ranged from classical piano to quartets to a musical variety revue. Click Here for upcoming concerts

Several special concerts are held throughout the year including the Christopher Durant Ballew Concert, a Mother's Day Concert, Fourth of July Concert and a concert in conjunction with the annual Holiday Open House in early December.

Plant Sales

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia offers plant sales twice per year in spring and fall. The Spring Plant Sale is one of our most anticipated annual events. In addition to plants propagated from our own collections, our horticulturists select plants from local growers and wholesale nurseries. Selections feature exciting new cultivars as well as proven garden favorites—annuals, perennials, ferns, herbs, shrubs, trees, and tropical plants. Click Here for information on our upcoming plant sale.

The Fall Plant Sale comes at the perfect time for planting most trees, shrubs and perennials. Roots develop during the fall, winter and early spring allowing plants to become well established prior to the hot and dry summer. A wide range of woody plants and herbaceous perennials are offered as well as hardy annuals. Catalogues are produced for each sale event and are posted here for gardeners interested in obtaining information prior to the sale.

A small selection of plants is available seasonably through the Gift Shop. On occasion, the Plant Conservation Program also offers rare plants for sale through the Gift Shop and at the spring and fall plant sales. Often unavailable from nurseries and garden centers, these plants are propagated and not wild-collected allowing gardeners access to rare species without endangering native populations.

Family Events

Family Festivals are a blend of education, fun and family fare. These Saturday festivals bring hundreds of people to the Garden for a variety of displays, demonstrations, and activities. Insecti-val focuses on beneficial insects and their interaction with mankind. ForestFest focuses on forests and their ecosystems, which provide us a rich variety of "goods and services."

Our Holiday Open House is the official beginning of the holiday season. The Visitor Center & Conservatory are decked out in holiday decor while musical groups perform throughout the afternoon. Santa and Mrs. Claus appear for photographs with children, local artisans display their ware, and puppet shows entertain children.

Runners and walkers of all ages enjoy the Garden's 5-K. Held in early fall, the course winds through the Garden providing a great view of fall foliage. This event is part of the Run and See Georgia Grand Prix series. Proceeds benefit the Garden's environmental education programs.

Other Events

Twilight Toasts combine live music, horticultural information, wine tasting and hors d'oeuvres in a relaxed atmosphere within the Conservatory—the perfect evening event to meet your friends or make new friends!

Behind the Scenes is a quarterly event allowing attendees a glimpse of the inner workings of the Garden—from research to information technology. This is a great way for Friends and volunteers to stay abreast of what's happening at the Garden—and what's on the horizon.

The Johnstone Lecture is an annual lecture honoring the Garden's first director, Francis E. Johnstone, Jr. Free and open to the public, the lecture brings noted horticulturists, scientists and others to the Garden for a variety of topics ranging from horticulture to botany to ecology and landscape design.
