Biobased Products Initiative

The CAIS operates under a Memorandum of Agreement with the Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) at Iowa State University to develop a certification program for products that incorporate biological materials (“biobased products”).

Standards will be established for a preferred procurement program that will be used by the federal government (USDA) to encourage the purchase of biobased products, including adhesives, construction materials, paper and packaging materials, inks, fuels, fuel additives, lubricant, paints, plastics, solvents and cleaners, and landscaping materials.
