About Us
The University of Georgia Drumline is the marching percussion section of
the University of
Georgia Redcoat Marching Band. This year's instrumentation includes
11 snares, 6 Tenors, 7 Basses, 11 Cymbals, and a 16 person Pit Ensemble.
As August becomes September, the College Football season
begins. For Dawg fans the season officially starts as the Drumline
marches onto the field between the hedges with its traditional "Off the
Line" cadence. The Battery also does a pre-game Percussion Show outside
the Tate Student Center in the lower parking lot approximately 2 hours
before kickoff. If you happen to be at a home UGA football game and want
to check out this show, please feel free to attend! The rest of the band
reports after the Drumline finishes playing, and plays several songs to
get the crowd warmed up for the game and the Dawg Walk.
The Drumline cycle begins in late Spring Semester when are
auditions held for the coming year's line. Auditions are open to all UGA
student, and the size of the varies from year to year. Through the
summer, members are expected to learn music and keep up on practice.
Camp begins in August and goes through to the start of class. As the
band settles into its standard routine, the Drumline maintains a
rigorous practice schedule, usually meeting 5-6 times a week.
Many Drumline members and alumni also serve as members of DCI and WGI
groups, spanning from Pariah Drumline and Odyssey Percussion Theater, to
The Cadets and Spirit Drum and Bugle Corp's. These commitments, as well
as many like them, serve as sign of the caliber of players that form the
UGA Drumline. |
