Outreach The EHS Department supports communities, government, private sector organizations, and other scientists and universities as part of its official duties. Public service activities performed by the department complement its teaching and research contributions. EHS faculty members help community organizations investigate and understand environmental concerns by interpreting data and developing strategies that require scientific expertise. Examples include the ... Members of the EHS Department assist local, state, national, and international agencies by serving on advisory panels related to specific issues. For example, a faculty member is contributing to the design of the National Children's Study, a prospective epidemiological investigation of childhood exposures and disease conducted under the auspices of the National Institutes of Health. Another EHS professor was a member of a U.S. government inter-agency panel that assessed the risks of perchlorate in drinking water. EHS faculty members support professional scientific organizations by serving on their Board of Directors and Editorial Boards. For example, one professor is a Director of the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry and another is a Fellow and Editorial Board member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association. |
