PURPOSE: To recognize outstanding scholarship in the French language and literature; to increase knowledge of the contribution of French-speaking countries to world culture; to stimulate and encourage such cultural activities that will lead to a deeper appreciation of these countries.

ELIGIBILITY: There are two classes of membership. Regular members include those college and university students who are nominated in recognition of their academic achievement in French. They must rank in the upper thirty-five percent of their class in general studies as well as have a B average in French. Graduate students who are candidates for an advanced degree in French are also eligible for regular membership. Honorary members include the French faculty of the sponsoring institution, members of the faculty-at-large, and community leaders who have manifested interest in French culture.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES: On a national level, the Society awards scholarships. On the local level, each chapter develops and sponsors any activity which will promote interest in French culture, either in the academic milieu or in the community.
