The countries of West Africa have united behind their rich musical and dance traditions to form this unique ensemble. Comprised of singers, dancers, and musicians, this company combines the traditional instruments, folklore, and mythology of nations such as Togo, Senegal, Guinea, Ghana, Benin, the Ivory Coast, and Mauritania to paint a colorful and exciting picture of the oral and musical traditions of these diverse peoples.

Cantus

A CAPPELLA MALE CHOIR

Cantus enjoys a reputation as one of America's finest professional male vocal ensembles. The first half of the program features All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914. This work recalls the remarkable and spontaneous World War I truce between Allied forces and German soldiers on Christmas Day, 1914 with 28 carols and war songs. The second half of the program features Cantus's varied fare of Gregorian chants, contemporary music, folk music, spirituals, and pop tunes.

The Scopes trial features Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan and sets the stage for an ongoing national debate that continues todayevolution versus creationism. The script is drawn from the original transcripts of the 1925 trial of Tennessee teacher John Scopes.
