Professional Placement Service

For the benefit of prospective employers and job applicants, the Southern Historical Association will again operate a Professional Placement Service. Position advertisements for university, college, or related public history fields as well as candidates curricula vitae will be provided for examination. A limited number of conference rooms for those institutions wishing to conduct interviews at the meeting will also be available.

There is no fee for use of the Professional Placement Service by employers or applicants at the meeting. The Service will be located in the SHA registration area at the Sheraton New Orleans. To utilize the Placement Service, please send the information indicated below to Susan Youngblood Ashmore by September 26, 2008.

Advertising Available Positions

To advertise an available position with the Placement Service, please send a hard copy description of the position on letterhead stationery to the address below. Include whether or not you will be actively interviewing candidates at the meeting. If you plan to conduct interviews, please provide the name of the contact person.

You may submit a position description for advertisement purposes even if you do not plan to attend the meeting or conduct interviews. Please make sure to include application procedures in the description if no contacts with candidates are planned.

Applying for Available Positions

If you wish to utilize the placement service to locate a position, please send a hard copy of your full curriculum vita and a one-page overview of your experience and scholarship. Since materials are provided to service participants in hard-copy form, please do not send these items by email. Those individuals using the placement service experience the greatest success by providing their materials ahead of time so that their information is available during the entire meeting.

Interview Rooms

Rooms are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to those organizations advertising positions at the meeting.
