Advising Appointments – Frequently Asked Questions

1)     Who is my advisor?

If you have less than 60 earned credit hours, you will need to see an advisor in the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences in New College.

If you have 60 or more earned credit hours, you will see Sarah McQuade, the Degree Program Assistant (DPA). Her office is room 132 Terrell Hall.

If in the past you have been advised by a faculty member, and would like to continue being advised by that person, you should contact them to set up advisement.  If they are no longer advising students, or you would rather be advised by the DPA, you should contact Sarah McQuade (smcquade@uga.edu).

2)     How do I sign up for an advising appointment?

If your advisor is the DPA, please sign up for an available advising appointment on the Advising Sign-Up sheet on the bulletin board next to the DPA office (room 132).

If your advisor is a faculty member (anyone other than DPA), please contact that professor to make an appointment.  DO NOT contact Sarah McQuade (DPA) to sign up for an appointment with a professor.  You will find a list of faculty and their contact information within the website.

3) How do I get cleared to register for classes?

If your advisor is Sarah McQuade (DPA), then she will clear you during your advising appointment.

OR

If your advisor is a faculty member, you will receive a three-page (pink, gold, and green) Advisement Form during your meeting.

The DPA will clear you to register within one to two days after turning in the forms.

Once you have completely filled out the form* and you and your advisor have signed it, you will need to turn in all 3 copies to the DPA (room 132).  If the DPA is not in her office you may request an envelope from Amanda Summerville, in the main office, and leave it with her.  The DPA will send you an email letting you know that you have been cleared to register for the next semester.

You may pick up your copy of the Advisement Form after you receive the confirmation email from the DPA.

* If you do not completely fill out the form, you will not get cleared to register for classes!
