Barking Treefrog
Hyla gratiosa

The barking treefrog is the largest species of treefrog in our region. It is noted for its many spots that usually persist despite changes in its background color, which can vary from dark brown to bright green. During the day, it may seek retreat under the bark of trees or in a burrow. It calls while floating on the water's surface in the small wetlands where it breeds from March to August. From a distance a chorus of barkers sounds much like a pack of dogs.
