Bob Reed - Post-Doctoral Research Fellow -

    I'm often described as a taciturn and laconic fellow, given to bouts of melancholy and predictions of imminent disaster. I grew up in Illinois and California, and did my undergraduate work at U.C. Berkeley. I then spent a few years at Arizona State, and received my MS for work on Grand Canyon rattlesnakes. While in the Grand Canyon, I rarely wore clothing. Continuing my long slow cultural slide to oblivion, I moved to Auburn University in Alabama, where I worked under Craig Guyer. After a leave of absence to work for USFWS in Phoenix and the Mariana Islands, I returned to Alabama long enough to apply for and receive a Fulbright Fellowship to Australia. I spent much of 2000-2001 working with Rick Shine in Sydney, pursuing topics that were tangentially related to my dissertation and taking many vacations. I also managed to spend some time studying sea kraits in the Republic of Vanuatu, where I found that (intestinally speaking) it's not a good idea to pick up and eat mangos when there are piles of pig crap in the immediate vicinity. During the summer of 2001, I got married to my stunning and patient wife Julie, received my PhD, and moved to Aiken. Currently I'm working for Whit Gibbons, primarily sorting mail, removing staples from documents, and studying snake ecology. When not at work, I enjoy my wife. I also try to stay in shape, go hunting, hang out with my step-daughter Clara, and read just about anything that's next to the toilet.
