The Real Media Server is able to stream the following content types:
| Audio File Types | RealAudio, WAV, AU, MPEG-1*, MPEG-2*, MP3* |
| Video File Types | RealVideo, AVI, QuickTime |
| Other File Types | RealPix, RealText, GIF, JPEG, SMIL, Real G2 with Flash, Mimio Boardcast |
The Darwin Streaming Server streams Quicktime movies, and can stream live broadcasts generated by Quicktime publishing software.
You will be able to publish content via FTP. The University of Georgia provides an FTP Client with the UGA Internet Kit, which comes in Windows and Macintosh versions:
Internet Kit for Macintosh
Internet Kit for Windows
You should use your MyID userid and password to access your directory space on the Streaming server. A single user is currently limited to 250 MBs of space, but you may request additional space from the Streaming committee.
Within your account, you will see four directories.
| Content/ | Real Server Content | Published content will be accessable via your userid. Used primarily as a developmental area for new content and to publish content which is not advertised to the public. |
| Secure/ | Real Server Secure Content | Published content will be accessable only with a password. Used primarily to protect materials which should not be published publically to individuals without authorization. |
| public/ | Real Server Public Content | Published content will be accessable in a Public space. Used primarily to publish content on the Streaming server meant for public consumption. This space is shared with the other users of the Streaming Server, and will thus contain files which you did not create. You will only be allowed to modify files which you have created. |
| movies/ | Darwin Streaming Server Movies | Published content will be accessable via the Darwin server, and must be Quicktime. Like Real Server Content, it is accessable via your userid. |
You should publish content in each directory based upon the applications above. You should primarily publish to the Content/ directory while you develop your media. When a project is in a completed state, it should be published to the public area for open access.
The section below describes how to access content in each directory.
http://real.cc.uga.edu/ramgen/
rtsp://real.cc.uga.edu/
Accessing content within your Content/ directory should be done with the following URL's:
http://real.cc.uga.edu/ramgen/userid/myfile
rtsp://real.cc.uga.edu/userid/myfile
Where userid and myfile are found, you should substitute your MyID and the path to the file within your Content directory.
Accessing content within the public/ directory may be accomplished
with these URL's:
http://real.cc.uga.edu/ramgen/public/myfile
rtsp://real.cc.uga.edu/public/myfile
Where myfile is the path to the file within the public directory.
Generally speaking, both of these links will work in any web browser, and both will work within most RealPlayer packages. Using EMBEDs or other HTML specific access may require that you use the HTTP URL, although this behavior is not consistent over all browsers.
Media published for the Darwin Streaming Server may be accessed using the following URL:
rtsp://real.cc.uga.edu:7071/userid/myfile
Where userid and myfile are found, you should substitute your MyID and the path to the file within your movies/ directory.
This URL should work both within the Quicktime player and within most web browsers. New versions of the Real Player software may also be able to contact the Darwin Streaming Server.
