Online Sun Resources
Sun documents
- Sun AnswerBooks online
The "AnswerBook" is Sun's online documentation, a searchable version
of the many thick 3-ring binders full of information constituting the
Sun manuals. If you have the inclination and the disk space, you can
install the Solaris AnswerBook onto your Solaris box when you install
the OS. This link goes to Sun's site. Very comprehensive and highly
recommended.
- SunService support site
http://sunsolve.sun.com/,
SunService's Web presence. This site is of limited, though not zero,
utility to users not having a Sun support contract.
You don't need a contract to use:
- Sun
Performance Information
Lots of info. The "TCP slow start" is particularly of interest for
Web servers.
- Solaris error messages (text)
- Comparison of SunOS4 and
Solaris 2 Commands (text)
http://www.bigadmin.com/ is a
useful, user-driven site maintained by Sun.
FAQs and useful documents gleaned from the Net
Currently, these are local copies of these documents, which means they
might not be the most recent ones.
These are not official Sun documents, nor written by EITS, nor otherwise
guaranteed to be correct, but we find them helpful.
Precompiled versions of freeware programs
WSG maintains some precompiled software; see ftp://ftp.uga.edu/pub/unix/packages/
and ftp://ftp.uga.edu/pub/unix/sun/packages/.
Some of this software is distributed as "tar" archives, and some may be
distributed in Solaris "pkgadd" format. Be sure to read any README files
you encounter.
A large source of precompiled freeware for Solaris is at http://www.sunfreeware.com/.
Newsgroups
Here are the sun news groups. You will need to set up your browser to
read news from news.uga.edu.

Miscellany
There's a little bit of stuff not otherwise mentioned above stored in the WSG Sun area on ftp.uga.edu.
