CONSTITUTION
of the University of Georgia
Unitarian Universalist Young Adult Network
ARTICLE I: Name
The name of this organization shall be the University of Georgia
Unitarian Universalist Young Adult Network. For the purposes of
this document it shall be referred to as UGAYAN.
ARTICLE II: Purpose
The purpose of UGAYAN shall be to provide a group for students
who consider themselves to be Unitarian Universalists to meet
other such students and young adults, and search for their religious
identity.
ARTICLE III: Membership
- Membership shall be limited to regularly enrolled University
of Georgia students, faculty, and/or staff members.
- Membership shall not be denied to any person because of
age, race, sex, religion, handicap, sexual orientation, or national
origin.
ARTICLE IV: Dues and Payment
There are no regular dues. Fees will be assessed as needed
by majority vote.
ARTICLE V: Officers
UGAYAN shall be led by appointed or elected chairs or co-chairs.
The number of officers shall be increased as the size of the group
warrants. Officers shall be appointed when only one willing candidate
exists, or put to a vote if there is competition for the position.
A majority vote of members in attendance shall be necessary to
elect an officer. Election of officers shall be announced at least
one week in advance.
ARTICLE VI: Meetings
Meetings shall be held weekly following service at the Unitarian
Universalist Fellowship of Athens, hereafter referred to as UUFA,
at a location to be decided each week by those in attendance.
Special meetings, if necessary, should be called by the chair.
Informal meetings can be called by any member.
ARTICLE VII: Quorum
No quorum is deemed necessary for the election of officers.
In the case of any dissent, the election of officers should take
place with a majority of the membership. Business shall be transacted
by the chairs, and by whatever members who are in attendance and/or
express an interest.
ARTICLE VIII: Amendments
Amending the constitution takes a majority vote of the membership
in accord with any amendment.
ARTICLE IX: Ratification
This document shall be ratified by a consensus of the officers
or by a majority vote.
UGAYAN BY-LAWS
- Members have the right to all information on the group,
including financial, organizational, and social. A request must
be made at least one week in advance to one of the chairs. Duties
of members shall be to participate as their schedule permits.
There are no attendance rules, and no formal expulsion procedures.
- Honorary members and associate members include any person
in the UUFA who wishes to participate, student or not, and any
former member who has left Athens. Honorary members shall have
the same rights as members, including voting priviledges, but
shall not have control over any funds allocated by the university
nor shall they have the responsibility for anything involving
the university, such as reserving meeting space.
- There are no dues. Fees shall be assessed when conditions
warrant by majority vote.
- The executive committee has the responsibility of contacting
members in the case of special meetings, or assigning that responsibility
to someone else. Due to the combined alliances of UGAYAN to the
University of Georgia and to the UUFA, it is preferable that at
least one person on the executive board be a member of the UUFA
and at least on person be a student at the University of Georgia.
Their responsibilities also include but are not limited to:
- Registering the group with the University.
- Maintaining contact with the board of directors of the
UUFA.
- Contacting new students in the UGA community with Unitarian
Universalist religious preferences.
- Organizing greeters for the UUFA.
- There are no current standing committees. Any member wishing
to form a temporary committee for the purpose of fulfilling a
specific task is free to do so.
- Amendment to these by-laws shall require a majority vote
of the UGAYAN.
