Student Group Status

Why do we have a student group?

  • to fill a spiritual and intellectual need on campus
  • to explore and affirm diversity
  • to offer an alternative to traditional authoritarian religions
  • to establish a visible UU presence on campus
See the student group's Constitution

The UUYAN functions as a student group and an Athens group.  The two groups are essentially indistinguishable; the difference is mainly on paper.

  Group History

The UUYAN was started in 1994 by Chris Dendy and Lisa Sullivan, who gathered interested people and began the tradition of meeting regularly after the UUFA services to go out for lunch.  Chris and Lisa handed over the responsibility of co-chairing the YAN to Peter Morrison and Cindy Landrum, who obtained official student organization recognition for the YAN from UGA.  Cindy also created this website.  Heather Kleiner (Women's Studies Department) became our faculty advisor in the fall of 1995.  Lisa, Peter and Cindy each left Athens to pursue the study of UU theology.  For the group's current officers, see our contacts page.
