INSTALL MODEM
If your modem is not already installed on your computer, you should first shut down the computer, connect the modem, then reboot and run the Windows "Add New Hardware" wizard, (Wizard is under -- "Start button" - "Settings" - "Control Panel" - "Add New Hardware") before doing the Kermit 95 installation.
KERMIT INSTALLATION
Insert Kermit 95 Disk 1 (Setup & Installation) into floppy drive A: (or B:).
*Click on -- Start - Run... , type "a:setup" (or "b:setup") and click the "OK" button.
*Follow the instructions on the screen.
*Each of the installation options will have a default setting associated with it. These defaults will be used unless you select a different setting. (Press <Enter> to select each default). The defaults are the most common settings one could use to set up a PC for use with the University's computing resources.
Notes on default settings:
*If your modem is already installed under Windows, you should be presented with its driver name (brand & model noted earlier). Choose this and continue.
*If you get a list of modems, choose the one closest to yours (brand and speed) or select "Generic High Speed Modem" (the default).
* For printer port selection, LPT1 will usually be the correct choice.
You will be asked to insert Disk 2 and press <Enter>.
The Registration Screen will appear, click the "OK" button.

YOU'VE COMPLETED INSTALLING THE COMMUNICATIONS SOFTWARE
Disk 3 includes the Kermit 95 on-line manual.
If you'd like to have this manual installed, see "Installing the Kermit 95 Manual" in the section below.
To start the Kermit 95 Dialer
click on your shortcut icon on the desktop (or from the Start Menu).
Dialing and Keymaps
The Kermit 95 Dialer is preset with numbers to the UGA Terminal Servers. The keymapping will be preset depending on your choice of which number you use to dial into your resource.
Note: On-campus users (including dorms) will need to insert a "9" in the default dialing location to facilitate on-campus dialing.
*At the top of the Dialer, click - Location - Change, and insert a "9" in the "Prefix:" box.
*You should also include entries for "Maximum redials:" (any number), and "Redial interval:" (3 or 4 seconds should be fine). In the event of busy signals, Kermit 95 will redial several times until a connection is established or the maximum number of redials is reached. Click the "OK" button to save the changes.
Exiting
On signing out of your account, you'll be sent back to the "COMMAND:>" prompt.
Type "logout" and wait for the connection to be terminated. Your terminal screen should disappear in a few seconds. (There's no need to press <Enter>).
If the terminal screen does not disappear, you may have to exit Kermit 95 by holding down the "Alt" key and typing x. This will take you to the "K-95>" prompt. Type ha (hangup) to hang up the phone line and then q (quit) to exit.
Installing the Kermit 95 Manual
To add the Kermit 95 on-line Manual at any time, insert Disk 3 into your floppy drive and copy the file "k95pack3.exe" to the directory where you installed Kermit 95. (This will be the directory where you find "k95.exe" and "k95dial.exe").
Note: Double-clicking the file from the floppy will not install the manual correctly.
