Enjoying the ride: The motto “Scan from above” was taken from a U.S. airborne military unit and adapted for library use, Kobres says.
Kobres transformed the conventional scanner by mounting it with cables from the ceiling. The scanner, refitted with surplus library items such as book cart wheels and pieces of shelving, glides up and down on a cabled pulley system constructed of these pieces and uses a computer weight to allow smooth operation. The photo above is a multiple exposure showing the movement of the device.
