Master’s degree candidates put their best foot forward in a current art exhibition

The Master of Fine Arts degree program at the Lamar Dodd School of Art will be highlighting 17 candidates in its annual degree candidates exhibition at the Georgia Museum of Art until April 27.

After preparing for at least two years, the candidates showcase their art through this display held in the galleries of the museum. The exhibition features various media of self-expression: ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, photography, drawing and painting, metal work, fabric design, interior design and printmaking.

“Each artist expresses himself or herself in the way he or she finds most appropriate,” said Augusta Hyland, curatorial intern, American art department.

The annual exhibition, which dates back to 1945, is a collaboration between the art school and the museum. Lamar Dodd, namesake and one-time head of the art school, made a point of featuring MFA candidates at the museum, and the relationship will only grow stronger as the art school moves to the Performing and Visual Arts Complex, which houses the museum.
