$2.7 million will supplement salaries, minimum hire rate
In an ArchNews memorandum to faculty and staff April 18, university senior vice presidents Arnett C. Mace Jr. and Tim Burgess announced the administration will commit $2.7 million from institutional sources to supplement salary increase funds provided by the state and the board of regents.

UGA makes initial payment in support of Navy agreement
On April 23, the University of Georgia paid the first $250,000 installment to the Athens Homeless Property Corp., the next step in completing transfer of the U.S. Navy Supply Corps School property to the university for use as a health sciences campus. |
General education curriculum revamped after four years of study and discussion
After nearly four years of study and discussion, UGA will implement a new general education curriculum that will become operational for first-year students beginning in summer 2008. The general education—or “core”—curriculum had not been changed since conversion to the semester system in 1997-98. |
Educational exchange: UGA signs partnership agreements
with two leading Chinese universities
UGA has signed agreements with two of China’s leading universities to conduct cooperative activities, including student and faculty exchanges, collaborative research and possibly training for Chinese government workers. |
Student wins fellowship to follow his ‘American Dream’
Honors student Edmond
Fomunung has been awarded a Merage American Dream Fellowship. A senior cellular biology major from Katy, Texas, he is the third UGA recipient of the two-year $20,000 scholarship for academically outstanding undergraduates who are immigrants to the U.S. With his fellowship, Fomunung plans to enter a joint program to obtain his M.D. and master’s degree in public health. |
UGA brings in big returns for national college recycling contest
More than 271 tons—23 times the weight of the entire 2008 UGA football team—of glass, plastic, steel, paper and cardboard materials were recycled by the University Housing community, in conjunction with the Physical Plant during a recent nationwide recycling contest. |
Four students
named mid-term Foundation Fellows
Four students enrolled in the Honors Program have been awarded mid-term Foundation Fellowships, UGA’s premier undergraduate scholarship that offers travel, research and internship opportunities. Mid-term fellowships are awarded to academically outstanding sophomores. |
Monthly, daily campus parking fees will increase this summer
Campus parking fees for UGA faculty, staff and students will increase in the coming academic year—the first increase since the current rate structure was adopted six years ago. The increase, effective Aug. 1, is
$10 per month for a zone permit and $2 per day for deck parking. |
