Safety seminar
Personnel working in biomedical research laboratories, and especially those working with animals or biohazardous agents, are invited to a seminar on creating a culture of safety at UGA Nov. 18 from 3:30-4:20 p.m. in Room H203 in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

“Case Studies in Accidental Exposures in the Research Lab: What Would You Do?” is sponsored by the Office of Animal Care and Use within the Office of the Vice President for Research.

Through presentations of real-world case studies of accidental exposures in research labs, participants will learn why a culture of safety is necessary for the success of institutional occupational health and safety programs. The seminar is presented by occupational and environmental medicine expert Patricia L. Meinhardt, project leader for Martin Blanck and Associates. She has advised universities on development of occupational medicine support services to biosafety and animal care and use programs for more than 20 years. For more information, call (706) 542-5933 or e-mail occhealt@uga.edu.

SecureUGA training
UGA employees are required to complete the 10 training modules in SecureUGA by Nov. 30. This includes faculty, staff, administrators, all student workers, graduate assistants, research assistants, teaching assistants and work-study students. Available online at https:/secure.uga.edu, SecureUGA is part of the Securing Sensitive Data Initiative facilitated by the Office of the CIO and the Office of the Provost. Participation in the security training presentations will be recorded and available to department heads in time for annual performance evaluations.

Passport office
The UGACard office in Room 309 of the Tate Student Center is now a U.S. passport office and will accept passport applications on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. Passport photos also may be taken for an additional fee. Students and other U.S. citizens planning international travel may apply for their passports weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Additional information about the passport office, including fees and documentation requirements, is available at www.passport.uga.edu. Application forms may be downloaded directly from the State Department Web site at http://travel.state.gov.

Bulletin Board is limited to announcements from campus-based organizations whose membership includes UGA faculty and/or staff.
