Call for seminars
The First-Year Seminar Program invites faculty to offer seminars in the 2010-2011 academic year. The program offers a selection of academic classes under the heading FRES 1010 and 1020 to introduce new students to research, study and the intellectual life of UGA. Seminar students meet with faculty on a regular basis and learn about their interests and research. For some students, first-year seminars serve as an entry to the major. Fall 2010 will mark the beginning of the program’s 14th year.
To propose a seminar, use the online form at https://ssl.franklin.uga.edu/fyseminar/proposal.php. Submissions are encouraged to be in by April 20.
Lists of seminars taught in the past along with more information about the program, including sample syllabi and answers to frequently asked questions, are online at www.franklin.uga.edu/deans/hruppers/freshsem/index.htm.
The Franklin College and Honors Program also present three awards annually to outstanding seminar instructors, each carrying a research account of $1,000. Anyone who teaches a seminar is eligible for the award.
Creative, innovative seminars are welcome. Faculty may teach a seminar on their own or with other colleagues. The topic may lie within a single discipline or may cross disciplines. Seminars that reflect the diverse talents, interests and research skills of faculty at UGA are ideal. For more information, contact Hugh Ruppersburg at hruppers@franklin.uga.edu
Marriage enrichment program
Engaged couples in Clarke, Oglethorpe and Oconee counties are being sought for the pre-marital preparation and relationship enhancement program provided by UGA’s Cooperative Extension and College of Family and Consumer Sciences.
Couples have two options for the program. They can enroll for a series of six one-on-one sessions with a trained counselor or attend an all-day workshop.
One-on-one sessions will be determined by the schedules of the participants and counselors. A day-long program, limited to 12 couples, is scheduled for April 10.
Registration for either option is $60, but couples who complete the program will qualify for a $35 discount on their marriage license.
