Welcome

The Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia is pleased to introduce the UGA Doctorate, our executive format Ed.D. in higher education management. Beginning in January 2010, we will offer the program in Atlanta.

Participants in the program are senior executives in higher education, each with a significant portfolio. The advanced and focused coursework they complete over two years in higher education management includes international perspectives and centers on the increasingly entrepreneurial nature of universities and colleges.

The Institute of Higher Education faculty, ranked among the leading groups nationally and internationally, teaches the program. An outside colleague, often from abroad, is present at each session to serve as discussant. Coursework in the program is dynamic and innovative, regularly employing actual case studies to spur lively discussions.

Each participant completes a dissertation supervised by an IHE core faculty member, addressing a specific practical higher education management challenge — one that can be directly relevant to him or her. The dissertation process is structured and embedded in the six-semester curriculum. So, participants can complete their work with the two calendar year program.

The program meets every six weeks over a long weekend in the Buckhead section of Atlanta, with weeklong summer experiences in China and Europe.

The Institute faculty and staff invite you to explore the program further. If you have any questions concerning the program, please contact Elisabeth Hughes at (706) 542-0576 or ehughes@uga.edu. For technical questions about the application process, please see the University of Georgia Graduate School website.
