Welcome to the Department of Microbiology in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia. Since its formation, in 1953, the Department of Microbiology has enjoyed sustained growth and developed an international reputation in prokaryotic biology. There are a wide variety of research programs available in the department, including microbial physiology and genetics, cell biology, microbial pathogenesis, ecology, evolution, population biology, protein biochemistry, biotechnology, and bioinformatics. A significant feature of our research programs is the diversity of microorganisms that are studied. |

The University of Georgia honored Dr. Wendy Dustman with the Outstanding Undergraduate Academic Advising Award. This award is presented each spring to faculty and staff members who excel in helping students select classes and courses of study and assisting them with academic problems.
