Fall participants in UGA’s Washington Semester Program head to the nation’s capital on Sept. 8
Against the backdrop of the upcoming presidential election this fall, University of Georgia junior Lucas Puente will have the opportunity to serve as an intern in the office of Senator Barack Obama through UGA's Washington Semester Program. Puente and the other UGA participants will start their fall internships Sept. 8.

UGA microbiologist honored by Brazilian government for work in fighting schistosomiasis, a debilitating, sometimes deadly tropical disease
Dan Colley, professor of microbiology and director of the University of Georgia’s Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases, was honored by the Brazilian Ministry of Health in August for his work in fighting schistosomiasis, a debilitating and sometimes fatal parasitic disease.

UGA graduate Lee Moore wins NSEP Language Flagship Fellowship to study Mandarin in China
Recent University of Georgia graduate Lee Moore has been awarded a two-year Language Flagship Fellowship to study Mandarin in China from the U.S. Department of Defense’s National Security Education Program. Moore received his master’s degree in comparative literature in May and his bachelor’s degree from UGA in comparative literature last year.

UGA hosts 2008 PROBE College Fair on Sept. 10 at The Classic Center
Local high school juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to visit with about 100 southeastern colleges and universities at the annual PROBE College Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 10. The University of Georgia is hosting the annual event at The Classic Center in downtown Athens from 6-8:30 p.m.

Dedication set Sept. 4 for UGA’s new Lamar Dodd School of Art building
The new Lamar Dodd School of Art building on the University of Georgia’s East Campus will be formally opened Sept. 4 in a dedication ceremony that honors the legacy of one of the South’s leading modern artists and art educators.
