ATHENS, Ga. Poet Barbara Ras, winner of the 1997 Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets, will present a reading of her work in room 265 of Park Hall at the University of Georgia, on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 4 p.m.

Ras, who is executive editor with the University of Georgia Press, received the Whitman Award for her book, Bite Every Sorrow, which was published by Louisiana State University Press. The book received excellent national reviews, and Booklist called it "sonorous and enrapturing."
