Scientists at UGA and ProLinia have produced the first calf ever cloned from cells of a slaughtered cow. The healthy calf was delivered by Caesarian section April 22 at the College of Veterinary Medicine. The breakthrough has the potential to revolutionize beef cattle production by allowing producers to select the highest-quality animals after the meat has been graded and clone those animals to stock their herd.

Stice holds an endowed chair of animal bovine reproductive physiology and also serves as chief scientific officer of ProLinia Inc., a company set up to use cloning and genetic engineering to improve animal agricultural practices.
